Factors Affecting Fabric Consumption

Factors Affecting Fabric Consumption:

Actual fabric consumption is an important issue to earn maximum profit from an order. But, some key factors directly affect fabric consumptions and inspire to increase garments cost. As its importance on garments manufacturing business, today I will discuss those important factors in this article.

Factors affecting Fabric Consumption:

Important key factors are mentioned below:

  1. Marker,
  2. Fabric shrinkage,
  3. Fabric Width,
  4. Repeat size in the fabric,
  5. Center selvage variation,
  6. Grain,
  7. Symmetry.

All the above key factors are discussed in the following:

1. Marker:

Marker has great importance on fabric consumption. When a marker can contain more garments then fabric utilization will be easy. Fewer garments containing markers can’t utilize the fabric properly. As result, fabric consumption needed more there. It should be noted here that, the eight-way marker will consume less fabric than a four-way marker.

2. Fabric shrinkage:

Fabric consumption is directly proportional to fabric shrinkage. If fabric shrinkage is more, then fabric consumption will be needed more and if shrinkage is less then fabric consumption will be needed less.

3. Fabric Width:

Fabric width is another key factor, which has great importance during calculating fabric consumption. If fabric width is more, then wastage will be less and ultimately less amount of fabric needed in terms of length for making that garments. On the other hand, if fabric width is less, then fabrics will be needed more. It is also approved in terms of the area of fabric required.

4. Repeat size in the fabric:

In the case of solid color fabrics, fabric consumption has needed lower than stripes and checks fabric. If the repeat size is large, then fabric consumptions will be needed more and vice-versa.

5. Center selvage variation:

In case of no center selvage variation in the fabric, the marker will consume less fabric. And in the case of center selvage variation fabric, the marker will consume more fabric.

6. Grain:

The grain is another important key point for calculating fabric’s consumptions. In the case of straight grain, fewer fabric consumptions are needed and in the case of cross-grain and Bias grain, more fabric consumptions needed.

7. Symmetry:

For the same style of clothing, the symmetrical fabric has needed lower fabric consumptions than asymmetrical fabric.
